Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

The Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor’s function is to detect how hot or cold the coolant is as it moves through the engine. The sensor relays this data to the vehicle’s computer so it can operate the engine cooling fans as needed and make adjustments to fuel injection and ignition timing to maintain peak engine operation and control vehicle emissions.

The Engine Coolant Temperature sensor monitors the coolant temperature to keep the engine running at an ideal operating temperature. Wells Engine Coolant Temperature Sensors are designed to meet or exceed OE specifications for fit, form and function and come with hardware, thread sealant and other items needed for installation.

The Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is generally located within close proximity of the cooling system thermostat.

If your vehicle is experiencing the one or more of the following, it may be time for a new Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor:

  • Rough engine idle
  • Hard starting engine or misfiring engine
  • Decreased fuel economy
  • Check engine light remains on
