Valve Train
Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid
A Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid uses a series of sensors (primarily camshaft and crankshaft) that communicate with each other and the powertrain control module to adjust the timing of the intake and exhaust valves on the camshaft.
The solenoid adjusts the timing by regulating the amount of oil pressure going to the VVT sprocket on the camshaft. Finely tuned oil pressure can result in increased torque, horsepower and engine efficiency.
Wells VVT Solenoids are engineered and thermal-shock tested to match OE parts in fit, form and function. Product materials include:
- High-strength thermoplastics
- Hard-coated anodized metals
- Precision-wound coated copper windings
- Mounting bolt, hardware and/or gaskets included when applicable
The VVT Solenoid is generally located at the front of the engine, near the valve cover.
If a vehicle is experiencing one or more of the following, it may be time for a new VVT Solenoid:
- Rough engine idle
- Misfire under load
- Decreased fuel economy
- Check engine light is on
