Camshaft Position Sensor

A camshaft is a rotating rod (or shaft) in the engine block that controls the intake and exhaust valves that works in synchrony with the crankshaft.

The Camshaft Position Sensor reports the rotational speed and position of the camshaft and relays that information to the engine control module (ECM) to be used for ignition timing, fuel injection timing and Variable Valve Timing (VVT) operation where applicable to improve vehicle performance and efficiency.

Wells Vehicle Electronics Camshaft Position Sensors are engineered and tested to meet or exceed the OE components in fit, form and function. OE-style brackets, hardware, spacer and weather-tight connectors are provided for installation.

The Camshaft Position Sensor may be located in a few places depending on engine design, including the engine cylinder head, timing cover or engine block.

If your vehicle is experiencing one or more of the following, it may be time for a new Camshaft Position Sensor:

  • No start or hard start
  • Loss of acceleration
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Engine misfire
  • Excessive emissions
  • Check engine light illumination
